I hate to change the subject to chevys but I am rebuilding an engine for a friend... its a 305 chevy van.... and I have it complete except for the distributer..... it just won't set right into the shaft... I don't know why?? I have tried and tried!!

I believe the rod that turns the oil pump on chevy's is slotted and you may need to turn it to get the distributor to seat all the way.
Not sure though. It's hard telling with Genital Motors! (GM)

Setting the distributor can be a pain sometimes. 83 F350 is right you have to align the slot on the oil pump shaft with the slot on the distributor. It takes a little patience but you'll get it.
