1974 Econoline Supervan

Toploader huh sounds
Mustangs did not have the Dagenham. Falcons only, besides the 4-on-the-tree Econoline.
Mustang V8s had T10s early, toploaders later. The problem with those is linkage, which would be the problem with the Dagenham as well.
You would have to find one in salvagable condition first, then mod it to fit.
Also, I do not believe the Dagenham would live behind a V8 for very long at all.
Three speed or automatic would be your choices.
Oh, you could put a toploader in there, and shift 1-2-3-4 with the column shifter. (1st would be where R is, 2-3-4 where 1-2-3 is)
Then you could have a seperate lever for reverse.

I mentioned that "sorta" as a joke.
You COULD try it, but look at a toploader 4 speed:
4 Speed Toploader Transmissions
(The reverse stub is the one in the middle)
and look at a 3 speed:

So you would have to attach your 3 speed linkage to the two outer stubs, and run a separate lever for reverse. If you put it in two gears at once with that set up, you could wreck the trans.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.

I didn't read all of the preceding posts but:
I had a '72 E300 with a 302-it died.
I already had a '72 351 Cleveland 2bbl and FMX from a Mercury Montego.
It took a lot of work and cutting but it went in there.
I had to have a bracket fabricated for the power steering pump.
I had to cut and reweld the pan because it was in the way of the steering.
This was done in '78, so there wasn't much help with fitting things and interchangeability.
I used a short oil filter, so it wouldn't hit the frame, even after cutting a lot of frame away.
I built a new doghouse with welding rod and fiberglass because it had to be wider than stock. I cut the top of the doghouse and glassed locating tabs on it, I then got some turn clamps ???? that I attached on each side.
I also had turn clamps at the front sides, where it attached to the body.
I spray foamed the inside and it was easy to remove by pulling the turn clamps and the 2 bolts.
If I had to work on the top of the engine, I just removed the top piece, it looked like a walnut shell.
Later, I rebuilt the 351C and got rid of the FMX cause it jumped into gear by itself too frequently. I replaced the FMX with a C6.
The van is still running around the Junction City Oregon area.
It had more power than my V-10 Ford van.
The Windsor, or building up a 302 is a lot less frustrating.
