Interesting because Walmart sells all kind of oil here in GA in the Rotella brand. 5w40, 10w30, and 15w40.

Okay, maybe ill compromise and go with rotella syn... this is actually my dads truck, but i drive it too and do all maint. I`ll let him choose if he wants to pay the extra. He`s an old trucker, and he always says how they could easily go over 15k between oil changes. So he assumed we could do ours at 6k and be okay. But this is obviouly a completely different motor...

To be honest... 6,000 miles is not the end of the world and if your not towing probably will not hurt anything.

I have gone once (only once) over 5,000 miles during a long road trip.... but I assure you I changed it the day after I got home!!!

For the record, the Ford manual states 5,000 - 7,5000 miles for oil service intervals, but most have chosen to go with 5,000 miles as it is an easier to remember and easier to divide into the other mileage services like the fuel filter which is every 15,000 miles.

Trying to remember 6,000 miles or 7,500 miles is harder (at least for me it is).

In the course of a year, that is only 1 extra oil change (maybe 2 at the most) depending on how many miles you drive... so most of us just have adopted 5,000 miles.

I bought a pack of those window stickers like shops put on, just as a reminder and because i service 6 different cars for my family members haha, so the odd intervals are not a problem. And the truck only has about 40k on it now, with about 200 miles of mid-weight towing each service. Not to mention that we baby it for the most part, to save fuel and brake wear. i agree with you that the 6k really cant be too bad at this point... I'll probably stick to around 5-6k with synthetics.

Probably due to the market there being able to support it. Having had to deal with Norcross traffic, there is more then likely enough people to support a wide range of product. Walmart here has skimped on what they have in stock. I actually have to get it through AutoZone or O'Reilly's. But I would rather deal with those stores then Walmart.

I just can't stand that store.

ya, nothing worse than going into walmart for a jug of oil and a filter, then getting stuck behind some lady with a cart full of groceries that for some reason checks out at the automotive counter... the only reason i still go there for the 5 qt of mobil is that it is still $4-5 cheaper than the O'reillys across the street.

The 6.0 shears the oil because it is used as a lubricant in the low oil pressure system and a hydraulic fluid in the high oil pressure system to drive the injectors. The ultra high pressure of the system is what causes the shearing effect. Or at least that's my understanding. That's what makes the 6.0 and 7.3 different from the Cummins and Duramax. The 7.3 isn't quite as hard on the oil because it's high oil pressure system uses a lower operating pressure to drive the injectors.

Also, I've used Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck since about the 10,000 mile mark on the odometer. I now have 118,000 on the odometer. I recently had some major repair work performed (IPR replaced, oil cooler screen replaced) and the tech that worked on my truck said it was the cleanest he's ever seen in regards to cleanliness of the high pressure oil system. FYI.

I use the rotella syn. for the cold start advantages and the high heat in the turbo. I believe it won't coke as soon as dino oil. I still change oil and filter at 5,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. Nothing on the 6.0 is as cheap as the oil and filter.

Rotella isn't THAT much cheaper that Mobil 1. Skip one six-pack and get Mobil 1.

I need that 6 pack to change the oil. That way we are both well lubricated.
