Ranchero firing order for 400?

Hello

I need to know the firing order for my ranchero I tried fallowing the order in the hynes book to a Tee but when i did all it did was screw off the firing order.

What is the proper firing order for all the 400's so i can get the just on which way it should be done...

Clearly, the book did not think over the order. I may have another 400 from another year so i need to see all the firing orders and try each one til i can get it to start.

IF i am correct it is 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 and that is counter clockwise correct?

To find TDC, pull the plug on number one and rotate the motor. The compression stroke will be pushing air out the plug hole, and you'll have to try to "feel" TDC with a wire in the hole. Also, you should have a mark on the balancer that lines up at TDC unless your balancer is fubar.

lol you know i had to look up the word Fubar? That was funny.... but yeah number one stroke top dead center left bottem front cylinder is where i need to be heading i found that my distributor is also bad too.. that explained the low idle under load with no leaks. i was reading up some information on distributors and found the exact symptoms of my problems.

When a vacuum advance system goes bad it can also throw off your timing a bit and make it retardate.
