No we swapped the whole assembly. If you rebuild the carrier is isn't terrible. That's pry what I will end up doing depending on what's wrong. I almost thought water contamination at first but it wasn't milky looking. Just shiny. Looked like shiny diarrhea. I've yet to pull The cover for a closer look, the weather hasn't been very good the last few days.

Milkshake anyone?

Bearing is trashed on side that was making noise.

This is what it looked like when I forst got it.

Anyone ever hear of one of these axles cracking a housing? I just can't understand how the fluid could get that contaminated in such a short period of time. You should have seen the bearing race on that side. It was all torn up. Going to look at it closer if it ever stops raining.

You would think you'd be able to see oil seeping from a crack. That's how I found the tailhousing was cracked on my ZF.

Yeah I suppose. Just a thought though. It just doesn't make sense. I don't want to put it back together until I figure out how it happened.

Going fishing any? Backing a boat in the water perhaps?

It would take a lot of rain to do that.

No, I don't even own a boat. The vent hose wasn't super tight but it would take water pouring directly Into the hose to do that wouldn't it? I am at a loss really. I don't even want to buy parts until I find the source of the water contamination.

Why not put it back together and pressurize it?
