Hey guys. The old girl made another epic trip. A friend and I went on a moose hunt 1300 kms away. Roughly 900 miles. We loaded the truck and trailer and off we went. Came back with meat too. We shoved the tracker in the trailer and while it was out we set a bit of a base camp inside the trailer. Basic cook area and the wood stove inside it.

It was a good trip fellas. The truck ran flawless. The weather was good. The tracker got beat. And the moose is delicious. All in all a win in my books. Gotta love the way that ol 7.3 pulls too

Being in the UP of Mi out in the middle of nowhere I was 50 miles from a auto parts store. They didn't have an adapter to fit our coolant tanks to do a pressure test so for $12 I just bought a new cap from Ford's. It hasn't used any coolant since. Confusing I know but I believe your right about the sodium coming from the water injection. I already have 4.5K on this oil so its a little late to change to distilled water but if I did the sodium content would be lower on the next oil test. But for sure after I change oil in AZ I'll switch to 100% distilled water to see what happens.

I'm going to have to watch that video again when I have time. Did he say the compression went down because of water injection? I could see that happening because of the water in the oil that he had. I run a #7 injector, Nick said he ran a #10 for hours and hours against a head wind in WY without any problems. With the manuel switch for all or nothing I've seen great results, so much better then in the past. Thanks for the encouraging words about running water, I would like to continue because of the results I'm getting.

Edit: I didn't mean first post, I meant to say I started a thread call 'sodium'. I didn't get much response so I googled it and found that it some time is used as a oil additive.
Glenn,

I parouzed a few pages back and saw you talking about this again. You can take it for whatever its worth but, I'm at nearly 200k miles now running water. Nice hard or soft tap water wherever I fill up along the road. On hard pulls in heavy wind above 10 psi I was pushing nearly a half gallon of water for every gallon of diesel burned, if not more.

Knock on wood, but it has no ill effect to date. I thought I had an oil consumption issue a while back and was thinking it was attributed to the water, it wasn't. Truck initially consumed 2 qts of oil over 5k miles at 130k stock miles on the truck, now she consumes about 3-4 qts of oil over 5k miles, 190k miles later. For what its worth I do not find that as a worry considering the truck has consumed thousands of gallons of water since. I attribute the oil consumption based on 330k miles, and the fact this motor is ran at WOT more than its not towing day in and day out. I as well like a toggle switch, as I mentioned I went through 2 or 3 expensive boost switches and just got sick of it, toggle it was and since has been a non issue.

Glad to hear yours is treating you well, I highly doubt your water is creating that big of an impact on your oil analysis, but hey. Nice wheels too man!

On a side note I ran out of water pulling eisenhower and rabbit ears on my hunting trip just last month, being able to hold 50-60 mph in 4th gear went to 35-40 mph in 3rd just to keep the temps in check....

Was browsing the local CL and found this truck looks cool minus the wheels and that it sits lower on the back.

Yeah Nick, I'm going to try a boost switch from devilsown because I'm afraid of forgetting its on and screwing up my motor. Its impressive what you have done, that's a lot of miles. I haven't run into one of those situations yet where I need it on all the time because of wind etc. In fact I don't use near the water I used to with just the toggle switch. I think anybody can forget its on when you haul heavy like you and I. We get busy handling the load and staying safe! Then its Oh darn, why is my engine missing?

While a very stylish stance according to the whipper snappers, I too agree. Alcoa's and a normal ride height would make that a darn purty rig.

My isspro fuel gauge was reading 15 psi higher then my liquid filled gauge under the hood. I called isspro and they sent me a test procedure and my testing showed the sender bad. I called him back and he is sending me a new one plus a snubber. I asked about that and he started into explaining the pulsing of the injectors. I told him that I have efuel but he said its the firing of the injectors themselves. He said he didn't know if it was IDM's or what caused it. I mentioned I have a Swamp's IDM and he said that might be it but have found over the years the 7.3's when the injectors fire it creates a wave effect. The snubber will take care of it. FREE!!

I went camping/woodcutting a couple weeks ago. I got two full loads (with racks), got snowed on the second night, and slightly grazed a tree with one of my taillights. Some good times...

Thankfully there was no damage to the bed, just broke the light...

I also broke my receive trying to skid one of the trees back to camp.
