leaf spring ?
Hey guys, just wondering if someone could answer my leaf spring question. I have an 85 f150 4.9 4x4, which has 2 broken leafs on the driver side, and 1 on the passenger side. I was wondering if f250 leaf springs would fit in as replacements. I thought this might get me a stronger spring, if they would fit. Mine have 4 leafs, and are 3" wide, not sure of the length. Anyone know if f250s springs would work, if so, any certain years I'd wanna look for? Thanks guys, your help is appreciated.

They'll fit fine, but the ride will be rough. Look at the door sticker for the RGAWR and find a truck in the junkyard with a slightly higher rating than yours and the same width springs. I've gotten them for $30/pr.

Wow, $30.00 a pair? I checked my local junkyard, and they wanted $65.00 for each one. They were from an 82 F150, $130.00 seems a little steep to me. I'll have to look around a little harder, thanks.

It'll depend on the yard. Some inspect, sand & paint their leafs (i.e. more refurbished than a standard junkyard part). Some yards think they have less competition so jack up the prices.
I paid the $130 prices you have for F250 leafs, but mine were sanded, painted and came from a 91. Plus, I got a good deal on a 10.25 axle to go with them
(also sanded, painted, and replaced all seals)

Thanks for the replys. I'll have to look around a little more. They want $130.00 for the rear springs out of an 82 f150, not sanded painted or anything. Another yard has some from a 92 and 97 f150, for the same price, which I would think would be stronger (10-15 years newer) for the same price. Any idea if they would be the same length or not? I know they are also 3" wide and four leafs. Thanks

I know through the years they had different styles. I have seen f150's with 5 leaves, while mine only has four. The one with fives leaves looked different too. Mine has a very thick flat leaf on the bottom. The rest of the leaves are arched. From my experience, unloaded, the other leaves are very weak, giving the truck a good ride. When I load it down, the truck sags till the upper leaves hit the thick one on the bottom. It doesn't look pretty when it's loaded, but it works, and the unloaded ride is very nice.
