if it's a mark 8 it's a 4valve . also be aware that some lincoln models had a sneaky trick pulled on 'em especially front drivers , they got a 3.9 4 valve . it's the same as a 4.6 but diff stroke for sure . also front drivers have their own uique bellhousing bolt pattern that will not allow you to bolt it to a rear drive trans without a pricey adaptor .......... i looked at putting the 2 valve from my beater bird into my 53 for a bit . just a heads up , but if you go buy some of those neat little weld on frame brackets meant for a flathead with the waterpump having the front mounts in 'em .... well my bird uses a very simialar biscuit mount and frame mount .... see where i am going ????????????

Got a SOHC 4.6 with AODE sittin next to my frame right now. Paid $300 for it. Got it without the PCM but luckily was able to get the VIN which is key to finding the correct computer thru the Ford dealer. Also found out mine is out of a police intercepter. Found PCM on ebay and next will be ordering the detailed schematics for that car, also off ebay store. Probably the easiest way to do this is to order the Telorvic do it yourself harness but that is about $750. I'm hoping to get this thing mounted and running without that expense. I know some of these smart FTE guys have done it. It's my belief that some components or sensors can be eliminated and a PCM reflash? may be necessary. I plan to document this adventure in order to help others who may want to do this swap such as yourself. Right now I'm in the early stages of this process so not much help yet. Presently patching up my cab, then coat the bottom, set it back on the frame and start locating eng/trans.

so you have to either buy an add on board
or one of the programmers, and have it programmed with a custom load.
On my 5.3l GM, it was $75 to send the ecu, programmed and postage back.
on the 4.6l its $150 (used) programmer (SCT X3 ), $100 programming service(cheap), and I haven't even wired up the engine yet.
DetailZone will reprogram the 4.6l ecu for $350. I don't know what happens if u need a change.

or do that swap to a carb and distributor that i mentioned so many moons ago from jailbait choppers and rods or something like that . i think they were wanting 1500-2000 and by the time you get done playing with wiring harnesses and ecu's and tuners , etc. you'll have that in it anyway .....................
