97 expedition air suspension

Ok, I did a search and could not find the answer.

I've got a 97 expedition 2wd, with rear air suspension. I want to ditch the air for a coil spring setup. My question is can I just buy springs for a 97 without air suspension and put them in place of the air bags? Or do I need to buy one of the conversion kits for it, from what I have seen these so called "conversion kits" only include 2 springs. Thanks for any help.

It's just as cheap to get the actual conversion kit and it will come with everything you need. FYI, your air suspension light on the dash will remain on.

Took a chance and just ordered the springs, fit perfectly! And saved about $60!, rock auto has a set on wholesale closeout for $45 came out to $57 after shipping. Cheapest I could find a "conversion kit" was about $120 with shipping. I turned the air suspension switch off and removed the lamp from the dash. Left the compressor in for now, thinking about taking it out and making a 12v portable tire inflator out of it.

How did you like the rear springs that you installed? I’ve heard the stock ones are beefier (thicker coils) and aftermarkets are thinner and not as stiff.
I installed new air bags in the rear and it feels much better than the OEM ones. The rest of the air system works as it should so I figured I would keep the air system. I was considering going to spring but I really like how it auto levels when I put my heavy trailer on the hitch.
