99 Ranger - 9" brakes or 10"??
I'm looking up the price for brake shoes for the rear of my truck, and it's asking if I have 9" or 10" brakes. I didn't know drum brakes came in different sizes on these trucks. What's up with that??

I believe the 4x4's have 10". I also believe the trucks with the 4.0 engine have the 10"
My 2.5 2wd has 9" drums. To make sure you can remove the wheel and check the drum. The measurement will be stamped on the drum in mm's. You will have to convert it to inches.

OK, 253 MM stamped on them....so, they are 10" brakes in the rear I guess. Anyone service their own drum brakes on these trucks? Is it a pain? What parts do I need to gather first?

I'm not sure of the proper name but a brake spring tool comes in handy for removal and replacement of the springs. Its not expensive and I think its worth it. It can be done without it though. Also reccomended is to replace the retractor and hold-down springs. I have personally reused the old ones and not had a problem but it is up to you.
