After I posted the above, I recall that it was already done. But I think that's ok.

The body style of the mid 80s through mid 90s is my favorite of all the Ford trucks.

I've long considered those the last of the true pickups, with the next generation being more of a cross-over vehicle. (Try buying a long wheelbase, fleet side, standard cab pickup today.)

Ford's offered the heavy half for many years. Don't know about the last 5, but before then I know you could order one. Single cab, long bed, fleet side truck. Looks like they haven't given up on the concept yet either.

UPDATE - SPIED: 2018 Ford F-150 Refresh

Now considering the 2017 XL model had more gadgets, bells and whistles than my 2002 XLT did, it's still not a bad deal even if it's only offered in the XL model.

Is there really a heavy half? Tougher suspension/rear end/transmission? I've thought for a while that Ford should market an F200. Something that could be legitimately used to pull boats or stock trailers semi-regularly.

Out of curiosity I went to the Ford website and "built" an F-150 as close to my Rusty as I could.
I picked the base v6 to roughly equate the straight 6.
4spd does not equal 6 speed auto, but that's what's left to pick.
4x4
XLT because Rusty has chrome. No one should have to pay 4000 dollars for chrome plastic instead of black plastic. What a joke.
2 tone paint and running boards.
Vinyl floor, cloth seats.
Regular cab, proper 8' box.
Rusty has 2 gas tanks, new one gets the big tank.

New one has miles and miles of wires, gadgetry, and electronic nannies. You can decide if that's good or bad.

Came out to $36,800. Rusty was purchased new in 1982 for $11,000. And if I know my father, he paid too much.

$11,000 in 1982 converts to $27,770 in 2017.

To push the issue further, when I use the "search inventory" button, Ford happily gives me 12 "matches". All are 4 door shorty boxes at around $42,000. No big deal. He won't notice the difference.

Dad walked onto the lot and bought Rusty. No special ordering.

How times have changed.

Yep, the dealers stock what sells off the lot, not a lot of call for a regular cab long box f150 any longer. Most will go f250 with the regular cab and long box.
