Well some times I wish they had cv axels then I could do more custom work on them. But the straight axel is stronger.
Yeah I see straight axles put in on tv for rock crawling. The CV is probably for a good ride then? I noticed the newer ones have coil overs now. I want to see about putting them in and take out the torsion bars.
Axle shaft joints are easy - the tough part is getting to them... I can do it in about an hour a side. That includes beer drinking time. But it does help a helluva lot to have a hoist. Doing things at waist level are much quicker than on the ground.
Was just going to say almost exactly what you said Mike. I've done them in less than an hour on the ground, but I have been tearing into axles for 20+ years too. It is intimidating at first, but once you get in there and put it back together you look back and think, that wasn't that bad at all.
If it wasn't so cold out. Or if Mike could make his shop mobile.
I was talking to Jimmy on the phone a little while ago, he and I are going to try and hook up next week so we can replace the rear blocks on his truck. Also a broken leaf or 2 I think.
I have a project rambling around in my head that I think I am going to find a regular cab diesel for. Thinking now of a 99-02, but was going to start off with a 96 or 97. Doing quite a bit of research for body to see if I can make it come out the way I want. i'll just leave that as a teaser
