Woohoo! I got the new belt put on today and it appears to be working nicely. I did a more thorough inspection of all the pulleys after I took the belt that was on it off. I didn't see anything that was out of order, so I went ahead and put the new belt on. I had my daughter floor the van, which normally would have resulted in the belt coming off, and it stayed on like it should. I guess the parts you buy do sometimes make a difference. I compared the Gates belt with the Car Quest one that was on the van and there is a difference in the feel of the material. The CQ belt seems like it has a harder rubber in it than the Gates belt. Maybe that is part of the reason why the CQ belts kept coming off--they''re cheaply made. Hopefully the problem belt saga is finally over.
Good luck. Remember having confidence in the Goodyear Gatorback belt I tried. Had already tried Gates & house brand belts made by Dayton. Unfortunately that good feeling didn't last a week.
After discovering the harmonic balancer issue & replacing it, the ratty old, hard, cracked, original belt ran smooth as silk.
Indeed hopefull this has been cured------nothing like something aggravating that goes on forever Rico!
Definitely report back if the new belt isn't the issue------its good to know the brand can sometimes make a difference. I've used the NAPA brand belts 3-4 times on an E van 5.4 motor and so far they've been just great.
You never indicated if this is a serpentine belt you are replacing or a V belt???
Be aware if we are talking about an serpentine belt, the bearings on the tensioner, as they start to go bad, may cause the belt to jump off occasionally.
