7.3L Fuel Economy Improvement

Thanks!
I just wanted to say thanks! I have read hundreds of posts with great ideas to increase MPG while not lightening the wallet too much. I've had my F350 dually for 8 years now and should have looked into this a long time ago.
My truck came with a hypertech chip, so first I'm researching how it affects MPG (by driving without it), then beginning some of the recommended changes.
I'm traveling cross country in a few months with a 16k pound RV and want to increase MPG, which will also demand that I go through the truck to ensure nothing is leaking or broken.
I also have the K&N air filter, but after reading on here may get rid of it. With no load and about a 50 percent mix of HW and city driving I'm getting 14 MPG.

I don't know how much luck you will have finding a Tymar kit, but here is Clay's 6637 kit. The same thing.

drafting is good, but use a cb if you have one, let the driver out front know your on his back door, not trying to pressure him, and just using his tail wind. do lots of road driving and want to draft, get a cheap cb, it helps. just keep good contact with your front guy, tell him if they got a stop coming up let you know

15 years later, this thread gets ressurected...again.
Maybe it will become a tradition?
while I'm here,
L99, ECSB, 4r100, 3.73 geared f250, hydra "canned" tuning, stock ride height and tires.
I get about 17-18mpg unloaded city/hwy combined. I can squeak out 20mpg if I keep it around 55mph. Got about 13mph towing a 4k lb travel travel that has a lot of wind resistance. 15mpg towing some jet-skis with little wind resistance and mostly 50-55mph roads.

It took me a few minutes to realize this thread was so old. ;-)
Some of the results posted for mileage seem generous. Before I chipped the lie o meter was fairly accurate, afterwards it is way off, it says I'm getting 20 mpg LOL. Pencil and paper over several tanks of driving under the same conditions are the only way to get reliable results.
I'll chime in, on freeway around 75 I get about 14, driving 55 on highways it goes up to around 18. Seems that 2000 rpm is where mileage begins to suffer.
My truck weighs 7000 lbs, I didn't buy it for the mileage. While we all would like better mileage we have to face the truth and realize what we are driving.
