hey
i was thinking about putting a heat riser on my truck after putting up with poor performace in my pa winters...i really miss ca. sometimes
i have after market dorman manifolds.... both stockers were split.
can i use the mechanical heat riser from the previous generation (6th)
for this?
i dont want to use the vacuume ones.... i like mechanical stuff

The mechanical heat risers in the exhaust manifolds can be troublesome. I find my trucks and old cars run ok in the winter if I keep the stock aircleaner, and the heat stove around the exhaust manifold in working condition. It will have a vacuum sensor inside the aircleaner that will control a flapper door in the snorkel of the aircleaner. There will be a hose running from the aircleaner to a sheetmetal piece around the manifold.
If your sheetmetal piece is gone, you can usually fab up something out of aluminum flashing from Lowe's. This is what I fabbed up when I had headers on my old truck. It's worth it to get it going, like you said they won't run very well when it's cold and damp outside.

thanks for the info.
my engine is a 69 351w and im missng the spring from the underside of the air filter and parts for this year arent easy to come by.
also i dont know how to test this type of themostatic control.
and i have a manual choke.
