Fluid Changes
Hi everyone, I have a 2009 F150 5.4 that is 4x4 and I would like to get some advice on performing fluid changes. The truck is coming up on 30,000 miles and I do tow a lot. The transmission and front differential seem to be the hardest fluids to change. Has anyone performed this service yet?

1. Why are you changing the transmission and front differential so early?
2. If you intend on doing your own maintenace
a. Look into a shop service manual
b. To protect your drivetrain (and possibly ESP [if you purchased it] FULLY document (receipts, digital photos, etc.) all driveway maintenance

The front diff is easier to extract the fluid rather than removing the cover. I also think unless it has been in deep water the front diff fluid is fine and does not need to be changed. The tranny is not that bad either, I just do a partial fluid change every 20-30k. Just drop the pan clean the magnet and reinstall with the original gasket and fill with about 5 quarts of fluid.
