My vintage 1979 Clymer manual specs the torque at 80-120 ft.lbs. If ya can't attain the torque, it says to replace the bushings.
Hot manual tranny? Depends how long it has been running and whether yer in town (low air flow/stop n go) or highway flying (lots or air flow and passive cooling). Have you checked the lube level?

thanks for info on torque specs. the trannywas driven about 5 miles. im in the process of tracking down down a vibration at about 70mph.was under truck checking yhings out and noticed loose r a b and a very hot tranny. was thinking maybe bearings going bad causing the vib.tires have been balanced twice.
