HI i have a 79 f100 that originally had a 302 with an fmx transmission, i didnt like the engine or the transmission so i went ahead and got a 351w from an 82 bronco and got me a c6 auto......everything was working fine for about a year or two and then i ran into a problem with my starter were it would just spin n never turn the engine over and sometimes make loud noises were the starter n flexplate were engaging so i asked around and they told me that it might b my timing if it was too far advanced that it would make the engine harder to turn over then at stock timing, so i fixed my timing and it worked fine after that for about six months then yesterday i happen to go try to turn it on and the same problem came up the starter bendix just spins n spins and never turns on...........any help its appreciated thanks
Buy a new starter and make sure it is for an automatic transmission flexplate ring gear. There are two different starters made for the 302 / 351w and other small block fords. One is for the standard transmission flywheel ring gear and the other is for the C/4 automatic transmission flexplate ring gear. I'm just guessing the C/6 uses the same one as the c/4.
Yes the c4 n c6 auto use the same starter ...ive ardy replaced it with a new flexplate and new starter but it only worked for about six months then it did the same thing
Was it a rebuilt starter ? I'v bought some rebuilt junk in the past, if it was an all new starter, i guess it could have been built bad too. Other than that i am lost for words. JIM
