Anyone still using the original "Sport"mirrors??
Not sure if Ford called them Sport mirrors, that's what they are called on my '71 K5 but I have similar mirrors on my '77 F100 Ranger.
Anyways, does anyone still have them, all the trucks I see have them removed, including my '79 F150 Custom 4X4 which one of the PO's removed.
My '77 has them and they look great, real sleek and sporty but are virtually useless. I especially have trouble with them when I haul my 20 foot carhauler or 28 foot RV.
So if you're running them, speak up, just curious to see how many people like them.

Are we talking the little 3"X4" suckers? I'd love a pair.... or, one actually. I only run drivers side mirrors. My 4x4s have the mid size 6"x8" ish ones, which I love, but they're too big for the hot rod look I'm going for on my 2wd. The 2wd now has some big *** towing mirrors that stick out almost 2 feet, and are like7"x12"!! i don't need big mirrors for a trailer, if I need to see the trailer that well, I turn around and look at it.....

I've still got them on my 78 F150 4x4. They do suck for towing, but I dont even have a hitch on the truck at this point, so not a big issue. I love the looks of them though. If I do change them out at some point Im thinking I'll go with some of the smaller style off of a mid 90's Bronco. They are bigger but still pretty sporty looking. And chrome................

In 1967, it was mandated by the feds that all light trucks come equipped with a L/H outside mirror as standard equipment. So, all 1967/79 F100/350's and Bronco's came with:
C7AZ-17696-A .. L/H Outside Mirror-Non Hooded. This same mirror will be found on some 1967/79 Passenger Cars.
But, no outside mirror was installed at the factory on any truck/Bronco/Econoline back then, dealers installed all the outside mirrors...which were placed inside the cab at final assembly.
If C7AZ-17696-A had been factory installed, and the customer didn't want it, the holes in the door would have to be filled in, and the door repainted.
Since all 1967/79 F100/350's & Bronco's (unless other mirrors were specified) came with this mirror, and most peeps did not want it, dealers had 100's in stock.
Since the mirror didn't come in a box w/a Ford part number, the dealers were stuck with them, as they couldn't be returned to Ford for credit. Most were THROWN AWAY, because next to no one wanted them.
A dealer I worked at 1975/85 had 100's stored in a huge packing crate next to the moulding rack. When the moulding rack was expanded, the packing crate and mirrors were tossed into the dipsy dumpster!

The "west coast" mirrors are great for all around. The WCs and small spot clamp on mirror and you're as good as the newer technology.. Personally, I do not like the 'image may be closer than it appears' message on the later mirrors. The WCs are not so good in the woods or close in parking lots

77 f350 camper special
Hello, new to site. I have a small problem, I bought a F350 1978 Super cab 4x4 about 7 years ago. Well as you could guess the rust as really taken a toll on this tough old bird..Now the problem, I bought a new bed about 2 weeks ago and in all excitment I never knew that there are so many different wheel base 8 ft. bed trucks. My truck has the (reg 8ft) bed and the one I bought is the camper special, yep it wont fit, not sure how to handle it. The bed I bought is from down south perfect condition no rust, and has that cool looking spare tire on passenger side....All great but legthening the frame on my truck seems extreme, or is it. I'm sure I could find a(reg 8ft) somewhere but in what condition..Maybe some of you ford drivers could give me some advice..Frame or new bed....thanks..Please no *** busting, I'm sure this isn't the first time somebody heard of this nightmare.....
