I have a '70 F-100 with a 302 which has headers and a mild cam on it. It currently has a 2-bbl but I am hoping to soon go to a 4-bbl carb. However what I am looking to do right now is the exhaust. I am currently runnin 2-1/4" piping and a couple thrush turbo mufflers. I am hoping to do something which will give me a little bit more top-end power but not sacrifice too much low-end power (I am ok losing some as I currently have plenty). I am at the moment thinking I want to go to 2-1/2" piping with an H-pipe and a couple turbo mufflers. Sound is not an extremely important part to me but of course I would like it to sound good and a lil volume never hurt anyone .

What are some opinions on my thoughts right now? Any other suggestions? I am still on the fence on going to bigger pipes, what do y'all think? Any help and suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

 

2.25-inch tubing is fine for a 302. An H-pipe will be worth more in terms of efficiency than larger tubes.

 

I wouldn't go any bigger than 2.5", without building the engine up any more than a Carb and can you will actually lose power due to a lack of backpressure

 

Aaron, You have a small engine in a big vehicle, you can happily spend all the money that you want but you will only notice a slight improvement if any.

Put in a bigger horse under the hood if you need to pull the wagon harder.

I agree that 2.25" is all you need on a mildly built 302. I have built a good many small block Fords and the biggest gains I ever get are from larger valve heads and higher compression.

 

I would run 2" myself but 2.25 would be good too.

2.5 is just to big for a driver.

 

If you are looking for a better sound you can run larger tips, will give it a little better sound, off you don't care for the chrome you can have them use a larger diam. pipe out the back
