my truck on scales yesterday was 8280 lbs with me, full tank, and toolbox.

what do dmaxs come across the scales at? i always thought they were around about the same as a ford? never drove a chevy so no experience with them..

If Bill Dickey's complaining about 14MPG in town on his Banks-tuned Powerstroke dually, wait until he finds out he's been calculating MPG incorrectly or believing the Lie-O-Meter and he's really getting 10.5 MPG!

I get a little over 14MPG in town watching my Scangauge II (calibrated) for instant and tank-average MPG and feather footing the throttle. My 2005 single cab 4X4 weighs in at 7,230 lb. with grill guard, Hella driving lights and Snug top camper shell and 3/4 tank of fuel. Wanna bet his truck weighs 1,000 lbs. more?

Oh. My "in town" mileage is calculated in Cody, Wyoming. We have 6 intersections with red lights. Los Angeles "in town" mileage is more like 12 MPG.

If you read the posts on this thread, you'd realize that 14MPG in-town for a dually is fantastic (or, you don't know how to calculate MPG).

1. Pump up your tires to the maximum as shown on your driver's door pillar.

2. Don't carry junk around.

3. Buy a Scangauge II, calibrate it properly and use it to display instant MPG and your tank average. Then, calibrate your right foot.

a tuner will only help so much, as stated tuning the right foot and losing the "belly fat" is the best adjustments you can make....

Most here like the SCT.... been running the same xCal2 for a LONG time.... just swap out tunes periodically

I'm not much for thinking a lot about mileage as I bought my duallly to pull my 36' 5th wheel at 16,000 lbs. Picked up a SCT 2 used and it came with three tunes Street,Tow and Economy...last week had first chance to run the Tow tune pulling 5th wheel and got a nice surprise pulled over a distance of 180 miles on a route I had pulled many times and best had been 9to 10 MPG, this pull I got hand calculated 12.6 now i know it is only one pull but still I am pleased..I stored the 5th wheel and drove back with the economy tune and got my best 16.2 mpg...not drawing any big conclusions but still nice to see reasonable mileage out of this pulling beast..

I got a new set of tires about 1500 miles ago, went from Nitto Terra Grapplers to Toyo Open Country "Tuff Duty" HTs, both in 285/75R16E size. I drive to get the best mileage I can and pulled 21 MPG on the last half tank. Granted this is only one tank and I need to get more data to get an accurate picture of what real mileage will be with the new tires. The best I got with the Nittos was bumping 20 once, usually around 18-19 highway with no load and easy driving. I hand calculate my mileage, don't even have the Lie-o-Meter...

jdadamsjr, who did you go with for your tunes? I got mine from Spartan but they don't support SCT any more... For more on this see my "Hung out to dry" post.

yep saw and responded over there - I went to IDP, but any of the good tuners can put out a tune for the xCal2....

after all, it's just a small holding device, the tune is the most important thing...

my tunes don't care if I have an archaic device to load them with
just so long as they load!

if you really think about it too..... there are only SO many combinations of truck, engine, and mods, so once a good cookbook of tunes are written, they don't have to rewrite them, just match the truck, year, engine, and any mods and send out the tune !

and didn't I see the spartan tunes posted out here by somebody - maybe your strategy is still there !
I never used spartan though, he came around after I was done...
