Axle 3.55 or 3.73

Hello everyone and thanks for all of the information. I have a quick question regarding axles on the F150. Specifically I wanted input on the following question:

I am looking at the 2010 F150's with both the 3.73 and the 3.55 limited slip axles. Although I believe the 3.73 would be the best for towing, I wanted to see what people thought with more specific information on my general truck use.

We camp maybe 4 times a year in Arizona with an average travel time of 2-4 hours in the high elevations. The camper we have is the 13RT Starcraft Pop-up camper (dry weight 2900). Most of my driving is local 10 mile in town commutes, with some highway driving. We do not anticipate getting a larger camper but plan to continue our camping trips with the 13rt.

Would I be good with the 3.55 or would the 3.73 be a must? Thanks a lot for any input as I want to make an informed choice.

With that light a load, the 3.55 will be fine. I pull a 7700# 5ver with my '09 Screw with 3.73 rear end, so I know you won't even know it is back there.

I think in your particular case the 3.55 will be fine. Which engine choices are you looking at?

In other words, a 4.6L 2V and 3.55 isn't going to be fun. A 5.4L on the other hand will do fine.

I would, without doubt, get 3.73s - much more flexible in the event that you want bigger tires down the road, better towing ability, and the mileage difference will not be that big a difference. To me it would be better to have the gear than wish I did. My $.02

I have the 3.73 on a 2010 F150 5.4L Scab 4x4 6.5' bed. Awesome low end power. With the 6 speed tranny it's also great on the highway. I don't have any complaints about towing. Good luck

3:55 will be fine and your tach will be just below 2K around 70. I pull a 17' Hi-Lo and loaded up it's around 3300 or so and my 4.6 3v Screw handles it easily. Actually surprised at how easy it is to tow.....even hills are not a problem.
