Tuners that are out of a box are engineered for everyone. Often times the people who have them do not have gauges or anything. The engineers design the tunes to be better than stock but still somewhat safe. This way you have less of a chance of hurting your engine and holding them liable. Custom tuners do not have to hold this tolerance designed by lawyers, and can tweak it depending on what you want. They will almost always tell you to have proper indications to tell you what is going on (gauges).
I would ignore the wastegate fails steady test code. I have seen that on several trucks that are tuned. I have even gone as far to troubleshoot the system per my factory manual and can not find an issue. I remember having it with my SC tuner, but I do not see it with my DP-Tuner. If you want to verify if, clear the codes and return to stock and drive a week, then check your codes again, you will not have that code. Then when you re-program it you will see it come back. It is a simple tuning issue that the PCM doesn't like, but does not affect anything!

Qchavez, that is an amazing dash, I like that. That must be the f 650 dash then? Throw in a manual shifter in there and it would look an awful lot like a tractor trailer. I suppose that's the point anyway. I believe I'm going to go with the quad pillar gauge, transmission, fuel pressure and exhaust temps for obvious reasons, along with keeping track of fuel filter life, boost for keeping track of leaks and enhancing fuel efficency thanks to your pictures and advice. I'll just have to buy some oakleys and put up with sun visor hitting the pillar. So, the top choice would be isspro's then? What about autometer? I've read and heard about good experiences about them.

Besides that, I'd prefer to buy stuff made in USA. The people I've heard of who had issues were taken care of by ISSPRO.

Here's my 6spd w/F650 dash (under construction):
those are Aeroforce Interceptor Scangauges in the gauge holes. if they ever give them back.... they will monitor any parameters PCM sees as well as do buzz test, cyl. contribution test, etc - oh, scans and clears codes tooo...

Ahh I see, so I should call dp tuners up and get me one then. Probably there isn't a leak then, just the superchips is being maxed out then. I thoroughly, in my opinion, check under my hood and haven't found anything leak wise. I would like more power though, and I've read that superchips doesn't do anything good for your transmission. A warranty comes with these gauges don't they? No matter the maker? Obviosuly not everything can be perfect. I've got my mind set on getting a four pillar gauge set now, the question is which kind? I've already got good and bad responses about two kinds. Any more input? And what's the best deal? And I read on here earlier that with a four pillar gauge set, when you open your sun visor up, to the window it hits the pillar set.

as for what I plan on doing with the truck, I've had it for a year, just the superchips tuner and the 6637 air intake. Its my daily driver, I pull a 30 ft 8500 dutchmen camper with it, along with the occasional hay wagons, nothing to strenous for the truck I would think. In april we're driving it to florida and back, from new york and back it'll be a 3000 mile drive. Ofcourse, i'd like the almost impossible, more power with more fuel economy. I get right around seventeen in the summer, 13 to 14 with winter blend right now. The chip is throwing the exhaust backpressure codes, so the tube and sensor needs to be cleaned, which may help. And i'd like to spend between 1000 and 2000 to fully maximise power. Well...close to it anyway. I know the gtp38r would be great, along with the stage 1 injectors. But those price tags will be last on my list. I'd like to get multiple things done with that money, instead of just get one thing done with that money. I've read the common mods sticky with their suggestions, but in my opinion, no truck is made the same, and neither is the mechanic/truck condiseur. So I like a lot of opinions. So I welcome all opinions, good and bad.

I have Isspro EV2 in my truck while my wife has Autometer Phantom (white face) in hers. I like the Isspro better, MUCH easier to read (especially during the day...) I think both are quality brands so get what suits your tastes. Can't wait to see some pics.

If you are looking at spending $1-2k you should be able to get gauges and a chip with a few key tunes. Most of us that run a DP-Tuner use the 80 HP Economy tume as our daily driver tune. It is a great tune that provides plenty of fun and good mileage. For towing what you have I would go with the 60 HP tow tune. It is a good tune that will provide good pulling power. I noticed a big difference when I installed mine from the old SC tuner I had when towing. If you want to stay in budget, you can install a ported housing and it will take care of the surge when towing (yes it will surge more with good tunes). That will put you at roughly $1500, but will be a solid set-up. If you want injectors, you will need good tunes to get the most out of it anyway.
I tow a similar setup to what you have and mine does great. Could it use more power? Sure. But I still have no problem passing on hills while towing.

The floppy end of visor near drivers window gets in front of top gauge when visor is down - but you can flop the end out of the way pretty easy. Never heard of anyone having an issue with that... When visor is up, its out of the way.
Can I vote 2x for EV2's? I've seen alot of gauges and they are the only ones (besides what I have) I'd get.
Yes, a real chip would be a good idea - several to choose from. Live tuning would be ideal.
As far as WW or housing, wait and see if ya get surge (neither of my trucks did). Straight-pipe the stock exhaust (or BTM) - bigger exhaust is a waste of $$ (yes, everyone who spent the $$ will argue - but few have been on the dyno to know for sure... )
Save up for BTS trans, then Stage II injectors and a turbo upgrade.
There is no better MPG while towing. More HP burns more fuel - I've towed A LOT and I don't care what they say. There is no 'drive easy' when towing 10k lbs. On cruise control it will go to 99% load on any grade...
Just my experience talkin'....... (I've put over 300k miles on my 2 PSD's)

alright, that seems like a good plan, a dp tuner with some good tunes, i wont be including my gauges in my mod budget. so the tuner, the ported shroud, a valve body maybe? or should i go with a transgo tugger kit? dual 4 inch staniless steel diamond eye exhausts are on my list but i'm not including those in my budget either. and i think if i get all that done it should be pretty much complete. besides a modded hpop, injectors and turbo. i get bored easily so i like spacing my mods out, i try to do two a month to keep me occupied. keeps the cash flow nice and even too

here's a question, when it comes to the transmission factor, and mine finally decides to s*** the bed, which it will, with my lead foot, what would stop me from tearing my own apart and installing my own heavy duty parts? my father is a transmission specialist, he doesn't usually work on diesels but has experience in repairing the 4R100's. he lives quite a ways away so i havent talked to him about it but thats what a bts transmission is right? brian takes the transmissions apart and rebuilds them with heavy duty parts correct? i just changed the fluid and filter and there was no clutch material anywhere in the pan or on the magnet, and thats at 163000 miles. and the reason for the dual four inch exhausts is because i want it to beller...like a cummins...would i get the same effect from straight piping the stock exhaust? I've also heard that i could have my stock injectors rebuilt to the stage that i would like. is that true? or limited to a certain amount?
