Engine redo
My engine/truck has become a good hobby for me which I enjoy. Lately I've been thinking about making some changes to the engine, and wanted to run it by you guys because I value your advise.
The main thing I want to do is remove the ridges in my c. chambers. I have been wanting to do it for some time, and have posted a few times regarding it. No body seems to be able to identify the head--but regardless. Having the ridges there, from about 4 o'clock to about 8 o'clock around the s.plug side of the chambers, is, I feel, limiting the performance. You can see in the photo below what I mean.
While removing the ridges, I'm going to clean out the runners, leaving the int. slightly rougher than the exh. I paid to have the bowls cleaned up before. My second question is: How much of a difference can I expect to feel?
While I'm in there doing the work, I'm going to be changing to ... most likely an Isky 262 cam, but haven't ruled out the Comp 260 or 268.
I'd like to hear what you think about the ridges, and whether I should have the head milled more to retain the c.r. I now have. Currently the head is milled 20-.030", and the block is milled .020".

Removing the ridges. But if you are going to do the rest of the operation like polishing the chambers it won't hurt anything but to be safe, check with a performance head specialist. My vote is for a Comp cam...but you might have to go to a coin toss to determine which one
