Driver door button sticks

I have had this issue as long as ive had the truck. When i push the button to get in the button sticks and the door will not latch. I either have to pull the button back out or just slam it really hard. Ive gotten good at pulling it back out when i get in as a reaction but i think its time to fix it. Has it happend to anyone else? What did fixing it consist of. Im sure its a spring problem. I want it fixed so i can put a keyless entry in it. Now that its down with a bad tranny i can fix some things that went bad this winter.

Yeah, it's just a spring behind the button that's rusted in 2. Pull the door panel and roll the window all the way up - that'll give you access to the 7/16" bolt for the front of the handle and the 7/16" nut for the back (near the button). When you pull the op rod and take the handle off the door, you'll see a phillips screw that holds the bellcrank bracket on the handle, and it also retains the button & its spring. Find a similar spring and it should work fine.

Yeah, well, I used to NOT have much social life, and even less money to pay for truck repairs, so I learned a lot about how to fix crap free, especially junkyard parts that I could afford. Now that I CAN buy better stuff, it's still more fun to make junk work.

But my GF still wishes I spent less time on this BBS (and a few others ).
