bleeding cooling system

I just put a heater core in a 1989 E150 5.0l. I need to know how to bleed the cooling system. Thanks in advance.

Fill up the radiator, and then with the cap off, start the truck and turn the heater on. Let it warm up so that the thermostat opens up. Then add additional water/coolant as necessary to bring the level in the radiator back up to the filler neck.

When I try to do that with my 5.8, as it warms up, the coolant starts to come back out the rad cap. Is that a problem?

No, its not a problem, but there is no sense in letting good coolent flow on the ground. I usually leave the cap on and wait until a few minutes after I feel the top hose get hot. This means that the coolent is flowing back to the engine due to the thermostat opening. Carefully opening the radiator cap then will allow the reservoir to be topped off with your water/coolent mix.
