I have a 1967 Econoline with a 240 V6. When I turn it off it does the spit and sputter. Does anyone know what the timing on this engine is? Also, how difficult is the Carb to rebuild? I'm from the VW side of vans, so this whole experience is all new.

 

Timing depends on the transmission you have.
If you have a manual trans the timing is 6 degrees BTD.
If auto. it is 10 dedrees.
Now if you set them and later the timing is off again after some driving. That is usually a sign the timing chain and gears are wore. So I would replace them if the timing does not hold.

timing is not all that needs to be checked. As the points wear the dwell changes, and as the dwell changes so does the timing.
The 240 has timing gears, if they are worn the timing marker will bounce around and not stay on one number.
