Need help
Need some assistance....Have an 03 5.4 w/137K miles. When I first start it (after sitting for a few hours) I get a knock on the right side. The knock pretty much goes away after a minute of running although you can still hear it faintly if parked between two vehicles or getting underneath and listening carefully. I am not the original owner but the noise was not there or at least evident when I first purchased the truck. I do my own maintenance and keep up with oil changes every 3-4 months. I do not put many miles on it each month. I only use synthetic oil with the motorcraft filter. I have, in the past, pulled the oil filter apart checking for excessive metal and have even run a magnet through the drained oil for the same reason as the filter with nothing. Is the knock something I should be concerned with? I do not do any hauling and do not abuse the vehicle. I still get around the same fuel mileage (10-12 mpg in the city) and all fluids remain at the approriate levels with exception of about 1/2 qts oil being lost between oil changes. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
