Engine Knock

New to the board. Hello everyone.

I have a 1987 Bronco, with a 302, engine is stock.

Here are a few problems I need help with.

I purchased a knock sensor because of an engine knock when the engine warms up and when I accelerate, it will knock, then stop. Is this a possible remedy? I am running fuel system cleaner through it, but it has only been a day.

Second, no-one seems to be able to tell me where this sensor is. Chiltons has a wiring diagram for this vehicle showing it is there, but I can't find it with the wiring colors given.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not think the 5.0 has a knock sensor. I am sure they are only on the 4.9. It sounds like you have a problem that needs attention soon!

I think the 5.0 had one and the 5.8 did not. It should be on the drivers side lower intake manifold from what I remember.

I thought it might not have one too. Look at the link I posted and click figure 3. The bottom drawing for 1987 only EEC module node 23. Both advance and autozone shows one for a 1987 5.0, also.

On the lower intake manifold, is that the front or the rear of the manifold?

Could you possibly tell me where the eec module is?

Thanks again guys for any help sent my way.

Emil

Should be towards the rear of the engine. It's said to be back there, I haven't really looked for it myself as the EGR and Thermactor solonoids and ignition coil are in the way.

The 5.0 does indeed have a knock sensor, i just did an engine swap and both of them had one.

Engine Knock

Here is a better explanation as to where it is

It is located at the rear of the engine, just past the intake manifold in the center. Can be a real bear to find and replace with the engine in the vehicle. Fortunately my engine was out of my truck so it was not bad to replace. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly positive where the eec module is located, so i'm really no help on that question.

Oops I forgot to mention the EEC, but it's behind the driver's side kick panel. The plug is on the engine side of the firewall below the brake master cylinder and power brake booster.

If you are having difficulty locating the knock sensor, on some vehicles it is actually on the intake and on others it is at the rear between the two bell housing bolts. Just do some searching near the rear of the motor and you should find it.
