Intake Question

Simple question, hoping that I might be able to save some money and get same performance, I was surfing around for a new intake on my 98 Explorer (4.0 SOHC)

What would be the better buy, a K & N PIPK Cold Air Intake for almost $400.00 or S & B True Rev for about $90.00 which is like an adapter that rids of the OE airbox and makes it into a cold air intake. Would there be any major performance diff. between the two or you just paying for the name with K & N?

With a $300.00 difference just kind of seemed odd, was thinking that there would have to be a performance difference.

Intake Question

For the price of the K&N that would be the Generation II kit. The Gen. II kit includes the air filter, MAF adapter, replacement intake hose between MAF and throttle body and shielding to try and prevent hot engine air from reaching the filter. The True-Rev kit is just a filter and MAF adapter. Besides that you are also paying for the CARB approval that the K&N has passed. It you don't have underhood emissions checks then this isn't likely a concern to you. The True-Rev isn't any worse for emissions, they just didn't spend the thousands of dollars for the testing to prove it. When the weather is below 90°F you won't feel any difference between the two. Above 90 my Gen. I FIPK (True-Rev equivalet with the CARB approval) doesn't feel any different than my stock air-box.

Intake Question

Thanks, didn't know all that info. Think I will just spend the money on the K & N, trust them more anyway since I've used there stuff before. Plus I might get a cool little window sticker with the purchase!
