Craziest Ford options

Of the thousands of options offered on the F-Series trucks over the last 75 years, we found these to be the craziest Ford truck options ever.

Calling the Ford F-Series a success is like calling the Grand Canyon a pothole. The trucks have been in production starting with the 1948 model year. Since just 1977 roughly 30 million F-Series trucks have been sold. It has been America’s best-selling truck for 46 years in a row. It has been the best-selling vehicle overall for 41 years straight. So, yeah, it’s pretty popular. And during this incredible run Ford has offered thousands of options for buyers to build a truck to fit their exact needs. Most of the options are what you would expect. Different wheels, paint colors, radio options, and so on. But some options might surprise you. What are the craziest Ford truck options in history? We dug through 75 years’ worth of history to find out.

Let’s start with a disclaimer. We missed some. The sheer volume of options available over the course of three quarters of a century is staggering. There are likely other gems that slipped by us. And we limited the list to just 10 examples. We could have made this a top 100 list of craziest Ford truck options in history quite easily. But we can’t write ALL day. We need to save some time for actually driving. So, we capped the list at 10. If you have some options that you think should have been included, please head to the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forums and share with us.

1 – 1950 F-1 Electric Shaver

craziest Ford truck options

We could have done this entire list on just the 1950 Ford F-1 pickup. The list of options that were available on this truck would have most modern truck buyers scratching their head. A right-side taillight was an option. As was the right-side windshield wiper, a radio, and even turn signals were optional! But our favorite option available in this truck has to be the electric shaver. That’s right folks, even in 1950 there was no excuse for stubble. You could equip you new Ford truck with an electric shaver so you could get a clean, close shave while driving to the job site. Crazy.
