Big Black F-150 Smokes Tesla in Fair, Real-life Drag Race

By -

The Cybertruck tug-o-war was a perfect publicity stunt, but no amount of stunting can beat this nine-second F-150 off the line.

Last month, Elon Musk trotted out a big prop from an Eighties sci-fi film before the invited guests at the unveiling of Tesla’s new truck. Turns out said prop, dubbed the Cybertruck, was the new truck coming out of Palo Alto, California.

The unfunny jokes continued, though, when Musk showed the truck winning a tug-o-war against a two-wheel drive base trim F-150, which is easy to do when A) it’s a publicity stunt, and B) when the electric truck itself is in the same weight class as the F-250 Super Duty (according to Automotive News). Thankfully, YouTuber Broke Built caught a more fair competition between Tesla and Ford on an even-level playing field: the quarter-mile.

Ford F-150 vs. Tesla Model 3

Per the YouTuber, this matchup between a 2018 F-150 and a Tesla Model 3 occurred some time ago at Evadale Raceway in the town of Silsbee, Texas, a half-hour north of Beaumont. The big, black Ford is a nine-second rig, helped by the big turbo under the hood. The blue Tesla, meanwhile, is the top-of-the-line Performance spec, with dual-motor all-wheel drive, and a zero to 60 mph time of 3.2 seconds.

The Tesla is given a head start off the line, and for a while, it was pulling ahead down the quarter-mile. Yet, the big F-150 was quickly gaining ground on the electric sedan. After all, Tesla can drop as many over-the-air updates on its rides all it wants to increase power, but there’s simply more to offer from the aftermarket for the Ford.

As was expected from a nine-second F-150, the truck blew the electric sedan away at the end of the run, its turbo’s seals smoking across the line. Sadly, the video cuts off just before any time or speed is posted on the boards. Then again, just knowing the Ford ultimately dominates the Tesla is good enough.

As for the Cybertruck, we’d love to see it throw down against the F-250. Per Automotive News, it’s already not looking good for the sci-fi prop, as the gasoline-powered Super Duty out pulls and hauls the electric truck unmodded. The 2020s are already looking great for the Blue Oval!
