A Sight to Behold: 1979 Ford F-250 Explorer in Rare Color
This unrestored 1979 Ford F-250 Explorer is a beautiful ensemble with white steel wheels, which offset the rare Medium Vaquero Glow paint job.
An old Ford pickup truck’s salt-of-the-earth vibe is enough to make any car enthusiast emotional. We recently discussed a vintage 1952 Ford F-7′ Big Job’ dually, which is currently up for sale on the popular auction website Bring a Trailer. Unfortunately, the auction ends in a couple of hours, but if you are still in the market for a solid pickup truck, this unrestored 1979 Ford F-250 Explorer might be your next ride.
The pickup truck is currently up for sale on eBay with no reserve. This particular example started life as a special factory order. The seller claims that the equipment in this Ford F-250 and the truck’s unusual paint job make it “somewhat unique”. This 1979 Ford F-250 has the Explorer package, which came with various options.
The truck gets an Explorer vinyl bench seat, a unique hood ornament, a bedside toolbox, special edition colors with stripes, etc. The bodywork flaunts a beautiful Medium Vaquero Glow paint job that was only available for one year in 1979. The Blue Oval brand only built 579 examples of the F-250 with this particular paint option and the Explorer package.
This 1979 Ford F-250 Explorer is in good shape overall considering its age. However, there is some rust, which is common with metalwork of this age.
Under the hood of this truck, we find a 460 cubic inch big block motor which, according to the seller, “fires and runs strong.” Nevertheless, we would recommend a thorough pre-purchase inspection if the lucky buyer intends to use this truck as his/her daily driver—the V8 motor hooks up to a C6 automatic gearbox that shifts smoothly between 3 gears and reverses.
A heavy-duty Dana 60 axle with a limited-slip differential is also part of the ensemble. This ’79 Ford F-250’s cabin is still in its original condition but requires some TLC. The shifter on the column needs fixing, and there’s a crack in the driver-side door panel. This pickup truck does not have any aftermarket components. The auction ends in 3 days, and the highest bid currently stands at $4050.
