All The Torque: 2023 Ford Super Duty Offers Best-In-Class, Towing, Payload and Power
The all-new 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty will be the most capable work truck ever with the ability to produce eye-popping performance.
The 2023 Ford Super Duty was revealed a month ago. At that time the horsepower and torque figures were not yet available. As a result, we didn’t really know what the performance capabilities of the all-new Super Duty would be. Well, Ford has now released those figures, and they are staggering. If you want a work truck that offers the most towing and payload capacity, you must get the new Ford Super Duty. End of story. You want a Chevy, fine. You want a Ram, fine. But if you want the most performance of them all then it is Ford for the win. Want some headline stats? 40,000 pounds maximum towing capacity. 8,000 pounds maximum payload capacity. And an engine that produces 1,200 pound-feet of torque.
“The all-new 2023 Super Duty is designed and engineered for America’s builders. Our job is to help make our customers’ work feel easy, and this truck nails that commitment,” said Andrew Kernahan, Super Duty chief program engineer. “The combination of purpose-built construction, powerful engines, 10-speed transmissions and new technology means our customers can work, tow and haul with absolute confidence.” They can also brag to their other truck buddies that nothing is more capable than the new Super Duty they have parked out front.
Super Towing
Super Duty truck owners use their rigs for towing. And the 2023 Super Duty is better than anything else in that category. The F-450 with a gooseneck trailer can tow 40,000 pounds. That is 20 tons. That is about 9,000 bricks. We are talking serious capability here. And while that may be the top dog from a towing perspective all the Super Duty trucks are impressive and lead just about every class in towing capacity. Again, if you are serious about your towing then the new Super Duty is the truck for you.
Super Power
If you want to tow, you are going to need a powerful engine. And the 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty offers four powerful engines. The below chart shows just how powerful each engine is. Capped off by the incredible High Output 6.7L diesel.
Engine | Horsepower | Torque (Pound-Feet) |
6.8-liter V8 gas | 405 | 445 |
7.3-liter V8 gas | 430 | 485 |
6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel | 475 | 1,050 |
High Output 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel | 500 | 1,200 |
If you have been following our series on the most powerful Ford truck engines of each decade then you can truly appreciate just how incredible the engines in the new Super Duty really are.
Super Payload
We covered towing, and we covered power. Now it is time to take a closer look at how much payload the all-new Super Duty can haul. If payload matters the most then you are going to want an F-350 DRW Regular Cab 4X2 XL trim with gas Heavy-Duty Payload Package. That truck will carry 8,000 pounds of payload. And the available onboard scales will measure all that weight for you.
Triple Crown
For a work truck the specs that matter are power, payload and towing. And the 2023 Ford Super Duty is best-in-class in all three categories. Tough to make an argument for any other work truck. And on top of all that brawn the new Super Duty has brains too. There is the Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Park Aid and optional 2.0-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard. There is also an embedded 5G modem that can give Wi-Fi access to 10 devices. The new Super Duty is a true force to be reckoned with. Pricing currently starts at $43,970 MSRP, plus $1,795 for destination and delivery. Orders can be placed with dealers now and deliveries should begin in early 2023.
