  • DRIVEABILITY – NO START – CRANK NO START – AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AT OR BELOW 0 DEGREE F (-17C) – VEHICLES BUILT 7/29/02 THROUGH 2/3/03 EQUIPPED WITH 4.6L ENGINE ONLY
Publication Date: February 19, 2003

FORD:
2003 F-150

ISSUE:

Some vehicles built 7/29/02 through 2/3/03 equipped with a 4.6L engine, may exhibit a crank no start when the CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature) is at or below 0° F (-17° C). This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Calibration.

ACTION:

Reprogram the PCM with an updated calibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Check for any DTC’s and service per the 2003 Workshop Manual.
  2. Using WDS or equivalent, re-program the PCM.
  3. Obtain an “Authorized Modification Decal” (FPS 8262) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed along with the appropriate information from the table below.
  4. Select a prominent place next to the VECI (Vehicle Emission Control Information) decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
