Some vehicles built 7/29/02 through 2/3/03 equipped with a 4.6L engine, may exhibit a crank no start when the CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature) is at or below 0° F (-17° C). This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Calibration.
Reprogram the PCM with an updated calibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
- Check for any DTC’s and service per the 2003 Workshop Manual.
- Using WDS or equivalent, re-program the PCM.
- Obtain an “Authorized Modification Decal” (FPS 8262) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed along with the appropriate information from the table below.
- Select a prominent place next to the VECI (Vehicle Emission Control Information) decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
