FORD SUPPORTS EARTH HOUR BY TURNING OUT LIGHTS AT WORLD HEADQUARTERS

  • Ford will turn out the lights at its World Headquarters and Ford Motor Credit building for one hour on Saturday, March 27, in support of Earth Hour
  • Ford Motor Company was recently awarded its fifth straight ENERGY STAR® Award for Sustained Excellence from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

DEARBORN, Mich., March 26, 2010 – The blue oval adorning Ford Motor Company’s World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., will go dark for one hour Saturday evening in support of Earth Hour, a global initiative to raise awareness of energy conservation and climate change.

Ford is joining millions of people, organizations, corporations and governments around the world in turning out the lights at its World Headquarters and Ford Motor Credit building for one hour on Saturday, March 27, beginning at 8:30 pm local time. All interior, parking and signage lights will be turned off during this time, except required emergency lighting.

"More than ever, we at Ford Motor Company are committed to the responsible use of resources," said John Viera, director, Sustainability & Environmental Policy. "Participating in Earth Hour is a simple yet significant symbol of Ford’s recognition of the importance of environmental sustainability. By working together and continuing to focus on responsible resource use, we can help protect our future."

Ford Motor Company’s actions to reduce the amount of energy used to manufacture vehicles and support its U.S. operations earned it the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s coveted 2010 ENERGY STAR Award for the fifth consecutive year. The Award for Sustained Excellence recognizes Ford’s continued leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through energy efficiency.

Ford improved energy efficiency in the U.S. by 4.6 percent last year resulting in savings of approximately $15 million. Since 2000, Ford’s U.S. facilities have improved energy efficiency by more than 30 percent.
