EGR cooler leak

Well found a small puddle of coolant under the truck. Charged the system and it is leaking from the cooler by the turbo. Name: 8009712B-C7AB-489E-AA9E-F7CD6DDEB907_zps3lrdabxj.jpg

Sorry for the bad picture. So at this point would a block off plate work or should I delete the entire thing?

I'd delete the egr cooler all together if you don't have to do emissions testing.

There are kits. Or you can have the original cooler ends welded closed where exhaust can no longer flow. I prefer the welded type because it supports the exhaust still. The kits do not & the bellows can crack because of lack of support. Plus the welded style looks completely stock.

The flip side of that argument is with the cooler gone it makes other things much easier to work on if the need arises to get down in the valley.

Well once you're in that deep it really doesn't matter. Only thing that would be easier to remove with it gone would be the intake. It's a pretty big job just doing the delete itself.

Yeah it is a big job, I did not have the time when I upgraded my SCT fitting, so now I have to go all the way back in when I do mine, but I am going to stud at the same time, so all is good.

I must be blind. I see the water, but can't tell where the leak is from.

That last picture is coolant as I pressurized the system. It's coming from right below where that black hose goes into the egr cooler

Ok gotcha. So it's the EGR "O" ring that connects to the intake. Still can't see the leak, but that's what's down there.

HPOP cover is the biggest benefit with cooler gone. It's a royal PITA getting in off and on with that cooler there, not to mention one sweats bullets hoping that bolt(or bolts, I forget now) you have to have in the cover before you put in down there doesn't fall out and into the abyss.

True. Didn't really expect the HPOP as one of those things you'll really be pulling off that often. Guess I'm just seeing it differently than most. When I tear mine down I'm doing EVERYTHING once and be done with it. Heads, headgaskets, studs, pushrods, possibly lifters, egr cooler weld, stc, dummies, standpipes, injector orings, turbo line updates, etc. Only time I ever forsee the need to pull the hpop pump after that is if it fails.

Are you talking about the O ring on the bottom of the intake or a ring on the valve it's self?
