Everything you wanted to know about a 3G swap: 3G Alternator Facts
Be aware the author of that write-up is no longer active on the forum or any other that I am aware of. His business is also closed. But, there are other sources for parts.

I went with windstar alternator (already had one with lifetime warranty) and it worked out great! had to do a little grinding and wiring but well worth it! Total cost = a couple bolts I didn't have lying around. If you get one from salvage yard get wiring with it so you can up your wiring at the same time. I took the hole fuse box and used the extra fuses and relays for aftermarket accessories (lights, stereo ,witch ect). Mounted the fuse box where stock jack use to go. Worked out really good don't have a mess of wires and inline fuses or relays anymore all in 1 nice box lol.

Hi,
I was burning the diodes in my 1989 f-150 4.9L 65amp oem alt.
With my jacked up stereo!
I went with a 130amp g3 from a parts store (Delco Remy rebuild) and used new plugs and made a 4/0cable with soldered copper lugs, B+ power out harness with a 175 amp mega fuse!
Has worked great for a bout a year now.
Had to grind a little off the reenforcement web on the alum bracket and reclock the plugs location on the alt. (easy)
Had to go with an inch longer serpentine belt also, but worth it and actually fun to do!
A lot of info on the WEB, put in your engine with a "G3 Alt. Conversion" Google search and you will be reading all night!
Good luck!
