New to me 79 F150

Hello

If everything works out this coming weekend I will be going to get a 79 F150 4x4 with a 351M 4 speed for 500 CDN. Apparently the PPO couldnt get it to idle and tha PO only got it for the driveline. The body is in alrightish shape for the age, and my cousin does autobody work so I have no worry about that. I will post pictures and info as I can, but would apprecieate any helpful tips tricks, or things to look out for with this truck.

Thanks in advance.

Wes

First off, Welcome to the FTE!
This is a great sight, with a lot of good, knowledgeable people here. Congrats on your new 79. Ask away when you get into a bind, I'm sure you'll get the answer that will get you going.
And we do like our pictures.

Unk Bob

Explorer?

Been looking at the pictures sent to me before I pick it up tomorrow (barring any no-go problems) and noticed it's a f150 custom but on the hood it has an explorer hood ornament does that mean anything option wise on the truck or is it just paint? I've been trying to find anything about it and came up with nothing.

The Custom is pretty much the bare bones standard package (think XL package of the newer trucks). The Explorer package adds a little more style. I know that you are looking at a '79 but these are all I have since I drive a '78. These two years are really pretty much the same.

I knew the custom was the baseline model I didn't know what the explorer was. That brochure is great thanks hopefully the freezing rain let's up so we can go today to get it. As good a buy it may be it's not worth hitting the ditch over.

I think the only difference between 78 and 79 was that in 79 all trucks (except some fleet vehicles) came with square headlights

That could be true. The explorer being a "special"trim package may change my paint plans from gloss black to the origional colors.

I want to paint my truck a metallic charcoal gray but you never see the original creme with green lines these days.

I was thinking either black or the "maximum Silver metallic" color of my other truck it seems to change color as you walk up, if it's clean of course lol but now I'm leaning more towards the original colors
