I had a similar thing happen last winter. I ended up giving up and taking it in. They replaced the wiring on the brake master cylinder, (on the end of it there is a wiring harness) and then they traced it to the cruise control module. There is a recall for that switch on the brake master cylinder so you can phone in your vin and they should be able to tell you if it was ever upgraded on yours, or take it in and they can look at it and should be able to tell. Mine was replaced, and still had the same problem.
