My '03 gets around 16mpg (give or take) overall. Weather, terrain, setup, tires, driving style, type of driving and driving style all make a difference (yes, driving style is that important). Throw in the fact that the '09 is brand new and you are looking at a big split in mileage. All the extra emissions don't help and the regen process helps keep the average down too. Supposedly the mileage will start to improve after the engine is broken in (20K or so???). I'm not sure on that last bit, since I'm at 178K!
