I actually used a pipe wrench for the big nut. keep the belt in place and its right handed thread. just hit the pipe wrench with a hammer and mine loosened rightup. pretty easy i thought. make sure the mating surface is clean before install.
that is the way I done it as most of my tools were 750 miles away
removing the radiator and shroud give a lot more room to work
I also replaced the thermostat as the housing gasket is part of it
