Nope, it is true, but not only for that reason. A lot of the surplus dried up as the UN has been strong arming couonties like South Africa to stop the sales of Mil surplus stuff. That bough new production prices up. As well as what is being used up in the wars.

My fav round is the 7.62x51 close cousin to the the .308, a couple of years ago it was like $12 to $15 a battlepack (140rd FMJ surplus) now it is all gone with the exception of a few capalistic types selling for the $70 tp $80 range.
