dorman products has just released the camshaft syncronizer assy for the 3.0's and 4.0's......it is a complete assy with the sensor and the tool to install it. I work in the automotive parts bussiness and happen to see the post on this problem and hopefully help somebody out by letting them know the parts are out there.
94-97 ranger 3.0 use part # 689-108
98-06 taurus 3.0 12v use part # 689-107
96-99 ranger, explorer 4.0 use part # 689-106 w/ 132mm shaft
96-97 ranger explorer 4.0 use part # 689-105 w/ 123mm shaft
96-98 taurus 3.0 12v use part # 689-104
