Carb and Dist

Heres a little background I have a rusted out 1978 Ford Courier XLT w/ 2.3 and 4spd. Grandpa bought it new in '78, dad bought it in '88 and I got it free in 2011. In that time it got a new head after it wore off one of the lobes on #4 cylinder and a new float. I rebuilt (or attempted to) the original Hitachi carb, and put it back on the truck. The issues I was having with it when I put it back on is I couldn't adjust rich lean let alone get it to idle smoothly. I just ordered a weber 32/36 kit for it. Now my question is, do I need to abandon the factory distributor and black box since I am switching carbs? The reason I ask is there were different solenoids on the carburator seemingly controlled by the black box. Thanks, Corey
