I'm quite sure that with a 1/2 ton it's a really simple swap to install a later complete rear axle. I had to move the spring perches on my f350, but don't think it's necessary on the f100. Even with the work I did, it was still easier and cheaper than getting into the innards and replacing the ring and pinion. I'm no expert here, I only have done one of them, mine.
