You could replace the compressor yourself, it's not a bad job, but if the system is still fully charged you'll have to have it evacuated before you unhook the manifold at the compressor. Then, unless you have access to a vacuum pump and gauges you'll have to take it some where to have a good vacuum pulled on the system and recharged after you replace the compressor.
