I don't know if I would call it MUCH simpler. It's only 3 bolts (maybe 5) to remove the axle. I haven't tried it the way above and hopefully I never have to replace another one.
I have a 2004 v6 3.0 and wonder if it is different than the above alternator replacement that he was talking about. How long did it take you to replace yours? How did you take out the axle?
