2004 F-150 Died, won't start

My friend has a 2004 F-150 with 5.4L V-8. He was leaving work and the negine died. Engine would crank, but would not re-start. No lights, no codes thrown, just wouldn't start. He pushed it back into the lot and let it set. He replaced a fuel filter (didn't prime it by turning key on and off) and then tried to restart,. Wouldn't start. Assumed fuel pump. We removed old pump from tank and turned key on and off. pump runs fine. Now reinstalling pump and tank. i was not there when pump removed, so i don't know how it came apart, but the pump is hitting the bottom of the tank!

The next step will probably be to remove the bed from the truck, reinstall the tank, and work from the top to put the pump back in.

Anyone have a similar problem or have any suggestions?
