belt diagram for 7.3?

I must be gettin old, 2 belts snap off my 90 superduty. It has 4 belts total, 5 pulleys, besides crank and water pump pulleys. I can't figure out how the power steering belt, ac compressor, and vac pump (on top of the motor) go on.Took the belts down , made those folks read the numbers off the belts .. O' wisdom from the clan help me!!!

thats what my 90 has!!! nice job Rupe!!

texasjack 04-28-2010 09:31 PM

That diagram does not show ac compressor or vac pump on high side to right.
O-alt O vac O ac

O-vac? O wP O-ps
O-crank

texasjack 04-28-2010 09:38 PM

I have another vac pump just to the left of the air compressor on top..... this super duty was set up to tow using air to release brakes, maybe why it has 2 vac pumps?

rodneywar 04-28-2010 09:41 PM

thats odd!

rupejosh 04-28-2010 09:42 PM

i assume the vaccum pump is probably the ac compressor swapped out or do you still have ac?

texasjack 04-29-2010 08:57 AM

Have ac , 5 other pulleys beside the crank and waterpump..

greywynd 04-29-2010 10:07 AM

texasjack, sounds like you certainly have something different than the norm, with having the second vacuum pump. Does either your AC or your PS pump have a double pulley? The vacuum pumps don't take a lot of power to run, hence why they are often ran off a secondary pulley from another source.

texasjack 04-29-2010 01:21 PM

The ac, both vac pumps,ps,ac are single groove. Of course, water pump and crank pulley are 3 groove. The 1st VP is below the alt, have that belt on. The 2nd VP is on the
left side on the ac compressor, maybe sitting a inch higher. Wish I could draw it on here...................:-banghead

wreckinball 04-29-2010 02:29 PM

is this a powerstroke engine lol? We are definitely going to need some pictures. Sounds like franken truck two might be developing hahaha

The second VP above right sounds like a move when you go over to the serpentine belts. Did they have serpentine then go back?? haha

texasjack 04-29-2010 02:51 PM

7.3 IDI, F-450. Well after looking at it maybe the belt goes around ac, then 2nd VP( since they are right next to each other) and back around crank and waterpump pulleys.
But the belt that snapped, bought exact size no.# doesnt fit.........................

here's another one.

DOH.never mind thats a DI (powerstroke),my bad.

greywynd 04-29-2010 05:55 PM

Got me scratching my head.....I've seen trucks with extra vacuum pumps, they are used for a trailer brake system of vacuum over hydraulic brakes that isn't terribly common anymore (at least around here.)

Is there any chance that when your belts broke, one snuck out and got left on the road at the time? Just wondering if one is missing all together.

I have a Superduty here without AC, and a couple 7.3s with, I'll try to take a few pictures and post them later tonight and maybe they will help you out. Beyond that, all I can suggest is try the belts in the factory setup shown above, and see if a belt doesn't work that way, and maybe it will reveal itself as to how it does go?

each item has it's own tightening bolts. vacuum pump, alternator, air conditioner compressor, and power steering pump are all tightened separate from the others.

over 60K views and not a correct answer ... looks like lot of folks want to know this answer :D

tjc transport 05-25-2019 07:21 AM

if it is for an air brake application, i am wondering if it is an air compressor and not a vacuum pump.
either way, pictures of what you have are a lot better for us to figure out what you need than guessing without seeing it.
